Conceptual Representations: What do they have to say about the Density Classification Task by Cellular Automata?
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, Aitana, a Developmental Cognitive Artifact developed byMarques (2006), is used to produce “conceptual” representations of the best known Cellular Automata (CA) rules that perform the Density Classification Task (DCT) (see e.g. Packard, 1984, 1988; Mitchell et al., 1993). The resulting redescriptions are then analysed from the viewpoint of their similarity, in terms of their cell state-update functions. We show that these new conceptual representations can reveal knowledge about these rules that is not accessible on the implicit level (CA in their look-up table form). We also show how the resulting abstractions can be considered suitable for the formation of “Conceptual Spaces”, wherein rules that perform similar computations are positioned in close proximity.

Conceptual Structure in Cellular Automata - The Density Classification Task
The notion of conceptual structure in cellular automata (CA) rules that perform the density classification task (DCT) was introduced by Marques-Pita et al. (2006). Here we investigate the role of process-symmetry in CAs that solve the DCT, in particular the idea of conceptual similarity, which defines a novel search space for CA rules. We report on two new highest-performing process symmetric r...
متن کاملEdge Detection Based On Nearest Neighbor Linear Cellular Automata Rules and Fuzzy Rule Based System
Edge Detection is an important task for sharpening the boundary of images to detect the region of interest. This paper applies a linear cellular automata rules and a Mamdani Fuzzy inference model for edge detection in both monochromatic and the RGB images. In the uniform cellular automata a transition matrix has been developed for edge detection. The Results have been compared to the ...

متن کاملMaterial Representations: From the Genetic Code to the Evolution of Cellular Automata
We present a new definition of the concept of representation for cognitive science that is based on a study of the origin of structures that are used to store memory in evolving systems. This study consists of novel computer experiments in the evolution of cellular automata to perform nontrivial tasks as well as evidence from biology concerning genetic memory. Our key observation is that repres...

The conceptions, practices and efforts of some education systems in ten countries and four continents of the world, in area of national curriculum, have been reviewed and analyzed in this inquiry to represent a brief look of their experiences and obtain some guidelines for delineating and developing national curriculum. The methodology in this inquiry has been descriptive and analytical researc...
